EQUINE/ANIMAL REIKI DRUMMING
Please note - the drum I use is 100% synthetic (no animal skin, no animal products).
REIKI DRUMMING(Notes taken from the Reiki Drum Master Practitioner Manual by Sarah Berrisford.)
"The founder of the Reiki Drum Technique is Michael Arthur Baird. He practised drum healing and Reiki but kept them separate until 1999. He began experimenting and realised he could use the drum as a channel for Reiki. He sent Reiki energy and symbols through the drum, and so the system was born. Drumming for healing and meditation is an ancient practice, the power of sound over the body and spirit is well known in tribal cultures. |
Reiki Drumming Technique is different from Shamanic practices. In Shamanic Medicine Drumming the sound and energy of the drum can be used in many ways e.g. sacred occasions of all kinds and for journeying from our world to a non-ordianary reality. The practice can be very intense and powerful however it does not have the protective and gentle energy we are used to with Reiki.
Scientific Research : Biofeedback research has indicated that drumming (even for short periods) can influence brain activity, bringing the meditative alpha state and reducing stress. Some research suggests that drumming can improve right brain functions like creativity and intuition. The playing of musical instruments, particularly those that can be played intuitively, can increase learning capacity in children. Drumming has been linked to increased immunity, and research shows that drumming can increase the production of the body's natural painkillers." |

REIKI DRUMMING FOR ANIMALS
Many animals, particularly nervous horses, may be alarmed just seeing the drum - before there is any sound at all. The drum is therefore introduced gradually and sensitively. The drum beats begin very softly with a repetitive beat and at a suitable distance - either from outside the horse's stable or the far end of a field. With smaller animals, they can be in another room with the door open. Animals are far more sensitive to sounds than we are, so even if the drum is barely audible to us they will be aware of the drumming.
Most animals are curious and like to sniff the new object. Once the animal accepts the drum, the playing can begin. Hands on or Distant Reiki is alternated with short periods of drumming.
