REIKI FOR ANIMALS, REIKI DRUMMING
An animal does not have to be ill to benefit from Reiki, however, regular treatments can support the immune system helping the animal to keep happy and healthy. Reiki can be given to relieve stress, nervousness or anxiousness, to help to accelerate healing following surgery. Though Reiki is not a miracle cure, energetic balancing will take place on some level, reducing stress and discomfort.
Many animals enjoy hands-on Reiki, other animals find that sessions are much more comfortable from a few feet away or even from across the room or paddock. Whether given directly hands-on or from a distance, Reiki is equally effective. Most importantly sessions should always be adjusted to fit each animal’s preference. The typical appointment consists of an ebb and flow of hands-on/short distance Reiki as well as short periods of movement and relaxation.
Reiki sessions are best given while in the home or stable where the animal lives. Animals are able to relax and receive the energy much more successfully when they are comfortable and in their own environments.
While Reiki is a powerful energy balancing system on its own, it is also a wonderful complement to other modalities that may be helping the animal recover.
IMPORTANT : Reiki is not meant as a substitute for veterinary care. Always consult your vet about the best course of medical treatment for your animal.
Animals appreciate being given control of the session : in other words, being allowed to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to the energy as well as determining the way the session will unfold.
The practitioner does not need to know what the animal’s problem is, Reiki will always go to the source of the health issues, bringing balance on all levels.
Many behavioural issues can be caused by stress or an emotional upset. Along with positive reward-based training, Reiki can help to restore calmness, allowing the animal to regain confidence.
Bringing Balance
By placing the hands on or near the body and channelling the Reiki energy, the practitioner is able to raise the vibrational energies of the organs, tissues and cells of the body. This creates and supports energetic balance as a whole for the animal on all levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. In a sick animal the illness would be considered to be an imbalance of some kind. The practitioner simply creates a possibility of ‘rebalancing’ that the animal then either chooses or does not choose to take part in. Reiki is not ‘sent’ to a particular area to ‘heal’ a particular problem - it creates a space where healing possibilities exist.
The animal is always in charge of the length of the session and will indicate to the practitioner when they have had enough by moving away and becoming active again after a restful state. The energy will not exhaust the animal as you can’t ‘overdo’ Reiki.
Reiki can never do harm.
Many animals may be quite active during a session then sleep afterwards.
Always have plenty of fresh water available.
